The Kenyon women’s soccer team battled to a pair of draws over the past week at home against Adrian College (Mich.) on Thursday and on the road at Otterbein University on Sunday, bringing its record to 6-1-3 on the year. 

The game against Adrian was slow, with neither side letting up defensively. The Owls took four shots in the first half, but none found their mark and the contest went into halftime tied 0-0. Kenyon began the second half on the front foot as Emily Copeland ’28 and Julianna Granetzke ’26 each took an early shot, but neither made it past Adrian’s goalkeeper. Late in the second half, the Adrian offense finally gained some momentum, as the Bulldogs peppered the Kenyon net with shots, but once again, the Owls’ defense held strong, and the game ended in a scoreless tie.

The contest with Otterbein began with both teams looking to gain a foothold in possession. The game quickly turned in the Cardinals’ favor, however, as Kenyon went behind in the 20th minute when Otterbein converted its first clear chance of the day that went past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Ariel Kite ’27. The Owls responded by keeping the ball in the Cardinals’ half, with shots from Addison Szollosi ’29 and Holly Byun ’28 forcing the defense to scramble. Still, Kenyon entered the break trailing 1-0. 

After halftime, Kenyon pushed the ball up the field and became a more consistent offensive threat. The equalizer came in the 65th minute, when Copeland broke into space and finished the shot cleanly for her seventh goal of the season. The goal capped off a stretch of sustained pressure that saw Kenyon earn consecutive corner kicks and force multiple saves. Copeland finished the match with four shots, including two on target, and was once again the focal point of the Owls’ attack. 

Jenna Michel ’26 added energy off the bench, recording two shots and nearly scoring just before Copeland’s strike. Midfielders Zoe Lipp ’28 and Natalie Sparta ’29 also helped drive play forward, combining to take three shots and linking well with the front line as the Owls pushed for a winner.  Kenyon finished with 13 shots to Otterbein’s 7 and a decisive 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Defensively, the Owls settled in after the first goal. Kite finished with three saves, including two in the final minutes to keep the match level. The back line, led by Brooke Heis ’26 and Chanda Maambo ’28, allowed just two shots on goal in the second half.

The draw was Kenyon’s second in a row and leaves the Owls in good standing to enter conference play against The College of Wooster on Saturday.
