The Kenyon women’s tennis team faced off against another high-level opponent last Sunday, taking on No. 3 University of Chicago in a neutral site matchup in Indianapolis. The Owls were competitive across several matches, but ultimately fell short against the Maroons 7-0, ending their fourth straight matchup against a ranked opponent with a loss.

In singles, Kenyon pushed multiple matches to extended play. Kiara Komlodi ’29 came closest to forcing a winning result, splitting her first two sets (3-6, 6-1) before ultimately dropping the third. Leni Lazaridou ’26 lost in straight sets at the top position, with Shadia Amado Aguad ’26 and Clare Hudson ’27 also each dropping their matches in two sets. Bridgette Kelly ’28 opened strong with a 6-4 first set win but was unable to hold on, losing the next two sets. Hana Nouaime ’28’s match featured two tight sets that both went to tiebreaks, though she fell 5-7 in each. Despite the final scoreline, multiple courts featured close contests, particularly in the middle of the lineup. 

On the doubles courts, Kenyon also struggled. All three pairings stayed within striking distance at the start, but the Owls found themselves unable to convert any of the matches into wins. Lazaridou and Nouaime fell 6-2 on the first doubles court, while Komlodi and Amado Aguad lost 6-3 in the second flight. The closest contest came in the third match, where Kelly and Hudson traded points back and forth with their Maroon opponents. The pair tied their match 5-5 before Chicago took control at the end. With the three doubles losses, the Maroons were also awarded the doubles point, giving them a clean 7-0 sweep over the Owls. With the loss, Kenyon moves to 10-4 on the season.

After a short break, the Owls will return to action on Saturday with another ranked opponent, No. 21 Case Western Reserve University, as their final tune-up before conference competition.
