The Kenyon men’s and women’s golf teams hit the road over the past couple weeks, with the men finishing third out of 21 teams at the Sam Snead Collegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia, on April 13-14, and the women claiming dominant victories in two tournaments: the Steven Tyler Memorial in Portage, Michigan, on April 13 and the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational at The College of Wooster on Monday and Tuesday. 

Men: At the Sam Snead Collegiate, Connor Gray ’28 got off to a lightning-hot start, birdieing two of the first six holes en route to a 1-under-par finish in round one. Adrian Jordan ’28 and Jaiden Koonar ’27 were Kenyon’s second-best finishers on the opening day of competition, each finishing 2 over par.

After finishing 7 over in round one, Jonathan Oakes ’27 surged in round two, carding a 3-under 68 to propel Kenyon back into contention. In the round, he recorded six birdies, including four in the first nine holes. Jordan shot 1 over, including a pair of birdies on the final six holes, while Gray and Koonar finished 2 over and 4 over, respectively.

On the final day of competition, Gray returned to his day-one form, putting together a blistering 5 under par that included a pair of eagles on the second and 11th holes and four birdies. Jordan once again put in Kenyon’s second-best result, shooting 2 over par. Rafael Frias IV ’27 and Koonar shot 3 over and 6 over, respectively. 

Overall, Gray finished second in the field individually with a final score of 4 under par, ultimately earning him NCAC Athlete of the Week. Jordan finished in 10th at 5 over, while Oakes also put in a top-30 result after carding 11 over.

The men’s regular season has concluded, with the Owls’ sights set on the NCAC Championships on May 1-3.

Women: In the six-team Steven Tyler Memorial, Kenyon blew out the field, finishing 23 over par as a team and winning by 19 strokes. Rafa Plasa ’29 and Sasha Belova ’29 led the way, each finishing 3 over par. Plasa recorded birdies on two of the first five holes, while Belova was steady throughout, only bogeying one of the final six holes. Jane Fanning ’29 and Camryn Nelson ’29 were solid contributors as well, coming in at 7 over and 10 over, respectively, to secure the Owls’ win. 

Kenyon continued its strong run of play at Wooster for the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational, finishing first in a field of seven teams and beating the competition by 49 strokes with a total score of 77 over. Plasa put together the Owls’ best score, shooting a 5-over 77, which earned her NCAC Athlete of the Week honors. While Plasa was strong throughout, she ended the round on a high note, recording a birdie and three pars on the final three holes.

Belova was right behind her, shooting 6 over par. She got off to a hot start, birdieing the second hole, but faltered down the stretch, including four straight bogeys to begin the back nine. Nelson notched an 8 over par, Fanning shot 13 over and Macy Printy ’29 rounded out the group with a score of 23 over.

The women’s team has one more meet before the postseason, heading to DePauw University on Sunday.
