In the concluding tournament of its inaugural season, the Kenyon women’s golf team took second place at the DePauw University Spring Clash. The Owls finished 54 over par behind the hosts, who finished 39 over par.

In the first round of play, Sasha Belova ’29 led the way for Kenyon, shooting 2 over. Camryn Nelson ’29 opened her day with a birdie on the first hole to claim the Owls’ second-best finish of the round with a 6 over. Rafaela Plasa ’29 was close behind with a round one score of 8 over par, half of which was due to a quadruple bogey on the eighth hole. Kenyon’s total was rounded out by Jane Fanning ’29 and Macy Printy ’29, who ended the round with scores of 11 and 18 over, respectively.

In round two, Belova made her impact felt as she birdied the seventh hole, ultimately finishing the day with a score of 1 over par. The first year claimed a second-place overall finish, only one stroke behind the winner. Plasa rebounded in the second round, birdieing two straight holes for an overall score of 14 over — good for fourth place. Nelson, Fanning and Printy all completed the day in the top 10 as well. 

After the tournament, Plasa reflected on the Owls’ time at DePauw. “I mean, it’s hard to be perfectly happy about one’s golf score because, in our minds, we can always do better,” she said in an interview with the Collegian. “But overall, I think we were satisfied with our performances.”

With the regular season in the books, the Owls will look toward their first NCAC Championship that begins on Friday in Warren, Ohio. Heading into the tournament, Kenyon sits at third in the NCAC standings. Plasa remarked on how thrilled the Owls are for this experience. “I think our team is pretty excited for the NCAC Championships, especially because it’s Kenyon’s first year with a women’s golf team, so it’s a first for all of us,” she said.
