Over the past two weeks, the Kenyon men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in two tournaments. In the first, the Duane Gomez Invitational, Kenyon’s annual home meet on April 18, the Owls delivered a strong all-around performance across sprints, distance, relays and field events. The women finished fourth overall with 86 points and the men finished fifth with 92.5 points. Then, last Friday, a select group of Owls on the men’s team competed in the Denison Big Red Invitational.

Women: On the track, Kenyon showed impressive grit in the sprints. Lia Wahl ’29 led the way in the 100-meter with a third-place finish (12.76), followed closely by Noa Helmbrecht ’28 in fourth (12.81). The duo continued the strong day in the 200-meter, placing fourth (26.53) and fifth (26.65), respectively. In the 400 meter, Ari Sobel ’28 posted a standout performance, finishing second in 58.60, while Jean Cook ’26 added points with a sixth-place finish. Addi Tober ’28 secured a strong second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.96), contributing valuable points.

Distance events proved to be a major strength for the Owls. Anna Brown ’26 dominated the 500-meter, taking first place in 17:52.44, while Lucie Prior ’28 added a point with an eighth-place finish. The Owls also showed depth in the event, placing four runners in the top 12. 

The relay teams were also a highlight for Kenyon. The 4×100-meter squad of Sobel, Georgia Yatrakis ’29, Helmbrecht and Wahl placed third (49.65), while the 4×400-meter relay team — Tober, Cook, Brown and Sobel — delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the event in 4:08.71.

In the field events, Wahl added to her strong meet with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.46 meters). Sadie Olson ’27 placed third in the triple jump (9.76 meters), while Penelope Artemis ’28 had a standout day in the throws, finishing third in the hammer throw (43.29 meters) and sixth in the shot put. 

Men: On the men’s side, the Owls also delivered several notable performances. Colt Murphy ’26 led the way in the 1,500-meter with a second-place finish (4:01:91), followed closely by Champ Blose ’29 (fourth) and Dylan Sibbitt ’26 (eighth). In the 5,000-meter, Caleb Low ’28 placed second (15:46.70) and Matthew Yerger ’29 added points with a sixth-place finish. 

The men’s 4×400-meter relay team placed second overall (3:26.07), continuing Kenyon’s strong relay showing. In the field events, Graham Yeager ’28 earned a second-place finish in the discus (44.42 meters), while Ezekiel Kiwanuka ’26 placed third in the long jump (6.45 meters). 

At the Big Red Invitational, Noah Berg ’29 led the distance group with a notable first-place finish in the 3,000-meter (8:56.20). In the field events, Yeager again stood out with a second-place finish in the discus, and JT Casarico ’28 placed third in the long jump.

The Owls will conclude their season at home this weekend as they host the NCAC Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
