Men’s lacrosse honors seniors, beats Wittenberg at home

The Owls celebrate a goal | GRAHAM STOKES

The Kenyon men’s lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance at home on Senior Day, defeating the Wittenberg University Tigers 17-2. The win marked the Owls’ first conference victory of the season and showcased both their offensive firepower and complete control from start to finish.

Kenyon wasted little time responding after Wittenberg opened the scoring, erupting for seven first-quarter goals to take a commanding 7-2 lead. From there, the Owls never looked back, outscoring the Tigers 10-0 over the final three quarters. The stat sheet reflected total dominance: Kenyon outshot Wittenberg 83-18, held a 52-14 advantage in ground balls and controlled possession throughout with a 20-3 edge in faceoffs.

Senior attackman David Chintala ’26 led the way with a historic performance, tallying four goals and two assists while breaking Kenyon’s all-time points record. Despite the milestone, Chintala emphasized the team-first nature of the achievement. “It was incredible to break the record,” he wrote in an email to the Collegian. “I was thankful for my teammates helping me set it up at that moment. We ran a play designed for me, and my teammates ran it to perfection.”

Chintala was one of several standout performers in a balanced offensive effort. Gavin Gumucio ’26 matched him with four goals and an assist, while Mike Kapral ’26 added three goals and an assist of his own. Tanner Lewis ’27 orchestrated the offense with five assists to go along with a goal, consistently creating scoring opportunities. Additional goals came from Alex Haag ’28, Harrison Curtis ’28, Roger Muckenfuss ’29, Antonio Miguens ’27 and Henry Powell ’28, highlighting the Owls’ depth across the roster.

The Owls forced 26 turnovers and were perfect on clearing attempts, 22 for 22. Kenyon’s goalkeepers combined for 10 saves, including nine from Adam Hall ’26, to limit Wittenberg’s scoring chances after the first quarter.

Chintala also reflected on the broader team effort that made his record possible. “Without solid defense and goalie play, domination at the faceoff X and wings, as well as hard dodging and good decision-making for my offensive teammates during my career, I never would have been anywhere near this record,” he wrote.

Despite the victory and personal milestone, Chintala remains focused on the bigger picture: “Although an amazing moment for me, the record does not gain us any more wins. The goal for this season is and always was to win a conference championship.”

With the victory, Kenyon improves to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. If this performance is any indication, the Owls are building momentum at the right time as they push toward that postseason goal. Kenyon will travel to Ohio Wesleyan University this Saturday to take on the Battling Bishops and continue NCAC competition.
