Men’s lacrosse beats Wabash, women fall to NCAC foes

The Kenyon men’s and women’s lacrosse teams continued NCAC play over the past week, with both teams going 1-1.

Men: Kenyon dispatched Wabash College 15-5 on Saturday afternoon before falling to Denison University 10-5 on Tuesday. The results push the Owls to 8-5 overall and 4-1 within the conference.

In Saturday’s home meeting with Wabash, last week’s NCAC Athlete of the Week Alex Haag ’28 gave Kenyon an early lead with the team’s first two goals of the afternoon. His eventual four-goal performance anchored an attack that dominated every phase from the opening whistle.

David Chintala ’26 (see page 12) was the day’s standout performer, however, engineering a five-goal, three-assist effort in just three quarters of work, his most productive single-game output of the season. After Haag and Chintala connected for the opening scores, Mike Kapral ’26 added another in the first quarter to give Kenyon a 4-1 advantage.

The second period was where the afternoon turned into a rout. The Owls rattled off seven consecutive goals to essentially put the match away before halftime. Chintala struck three times, Haag twice more, and Gavin Gumucio ’26 and Henry Wooster ’28 each joined the ledger. Wabash got one back with five seconds remaining in the half, leaving things 11-2 at the break. Entering the final frame up 14-4, Finley Radding ’29 put an exclamation point on the win with his first career goal.

On Tuesday, Denison jumped out to an early lead, but Kenyon quickly countered off a man-up goal from Henry Powell ’28, assisted by Tanner Lewis ’27. From there, however, it was all Big Red, as Denison scored six straight goals to go ahead 7-1. Chintala pulled one back to end the first half, but the damage was already done. After a quick goal from Lewis, the Big Red scored the next three goals and never looked back. Powell and Harrison Curtiss ’28 each scored late in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late and Kenyon fell 10-5.

Now, the Owls will look ahead to Saturday’s road matchup at DePauw University.

Women: Kenyon suffered its second conference loss of the season on the road last Saturday, falling 21-3 to No. 9 Denison. Then, on Wednesday night, the Owls defeated John Carroll University 14-13. The results move the Owls to 6-7 on the season (2-2 NCAC).

The Big Red took an early lead in the first quarter, controlling the first draw and scoring shortly after. By the end of the first, Denison had tacked on eight more goals, finishing the first quarter up 9-0 to secure a comfortable lead against the Owls.

Kenyon showed life in the second quarter, finding multiple offensive opportunities, but ultimately failed to convert. Denison tacked on another two goals before Ashley Quinn ’26 scored unassisted with three minutes left in the half, finally putting Kenyon on the board and ending the first half 11-1.

The third quarter saw Denison adding another six goals, holding possession and limiting Kenyon’s involvement. The score sat at 17-1 as the final quarter began. In the fourth, Kenyon added two more goals to the scoreline, one from a penalty converted by Ella Rigoli ’26 and the other from Lily Mason ’26, with Delaney Champeau ’26 notching an assist. Denison added four more goals in the final period, closing the game out at 21-3.

The Owls got off on the front foot on Wednesday, as Mason scored less than five minutes in before Ashley Auerbach ’28 doubled Kenyon’s lead. However, John Carroll scored three straight goals to end the first and begin the second quarter to take the lead. Kenyon would not wilt, though, as Spencer Kirsch ’26, Quinn and Mason would score a trio of goals to put the Owls back in front. Despite conceding a pair, Quinn and Josie DeBruer ’28 notched goals to send the game into halftime tied at seven.

To begin the third, Quinn scored back-to-back goals to put Kenyon ahead. With the game tied and 41 seconds to go, Quinn drove toward the Blue Streaks’ goalie and fired a laser into the back of the net to give the Owls the final goal and thrilling victory.

Up next, the Owls will take on DePauw at home on Saturday for Alumni Day.
