Looking to bring some much-needed momentum into its second-to-last doubleheader of the season, the Kenyon baseball team faltered, dropping two games to The College of Wooster and one to Wilmington College over the weekend. With the end of the season looming, the Owls’ record stands at 14-21 (3-11 NCAC).

At Wooster, it was the visitors who got out to a quick start. Kenyon’s lead-off hitter, Tyler Nee ’27, worked a walk in his first at bat of the game and advanced to second base thanks to a right-field single from Gio Giuliani ’27. Energized, Otto McDill ’29 whacked a fly ball into right field as well, scoring Nee. With two outs in the inning, the Owls eked out one more run on a fielding error by the Fighting Scots, thanks to Aaron Moss ’29’s bouncing grounder up the middle. 

But that was all the Owls could muster, as they failed to score in the next eight innings of play. Wooster scored its first run in the third, before opening the game up with a three-run fifth inning that sent starting pitcher Theo Canning ’26 out of the game. Wooster ultimately won 5-2.

Game two of the doubleheader followed an eerily similar pattern. Once again, Nee scored in the first inning, this time from an RBI by Giuliani. After that? Silence from the Kenyon bats, as Wooster scored multiple runs in four separate innings starting in the third, taking a lopsided 11-1 victory. 

On Sunday, a day after the doubleheader with Wooster, Kenyon hosted Wilmington College for its second meeting of the season. After handily defeating Wilmington 8-1 in March, the Owls lost 2-9, the program’s first defeat against the Quakers since 2010. By the bottom of the fourth inning, Kenyon was already down 3-0, and saw a tiny spark of life from Matt Ardell ’29, whose double scored fellow Californian Parker Ellis ’26. But Wilmington responded in turn, pouring on six more runs while the Owls could only score one more, a sac fly RBI from Zack Webber ’28 in the sixth.

While the Owls were supposed to take on Westminster College (Pa.) on Wednesday, the matchup was canceled, leaving one final doubleheader to close out Kenyon’s 2026 baseball season. The Owls will host the Yeomen of Oberlin College on Saturday. Although both teams are out of the NCAC Tournament picture, the two storied rivals will look to end the season with some bragging rights before pivoting to 2027.
