The Kenyon men’s and women’s golf teams returned to competition in early March with a busy stretch of tournaments, marking a pivotal point in both squads’ spring campaigns. 

On the women’s side, the Owls continued to build momentum in their inaugural season with a pair of standout performances. Competing March 7-8 at the Music City Shootout in Springfield, Tennessee, Kenyon surged to a second-place team finish. Just days later, the program reached a major milestone at the Port City Classic in Savannah, Georgia, as the Owls captured first place in a 16-team field, earning their first tournament victory in program history. 

The men opened at the two-day Savannah Invitational on March 2 in Savannah, where they placed 13th, before improving the following week with a fifth-place finish at the Tiger Invitational (March 9-10) at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Women: Kenyon kickstarted its spring season at the Music City Shootout with a strong all-around performance, claiming second place in a field of five. The Owls combined for an 81-over total across two rounds. Rafa Plasa ’29 led the team, finishing 18 over par to tie for fifth place, with a closing round that matched the team’s low score. Jane Fanning ’29 and Sasha Belova ’29 followed in eighth and ninth place, while Camryn Nelson ’29 added a 13th-place finish. Macy Printy ’29 and Madeline Meimaridis ’29 completed the lineup. The Owls’ sharp play put them atop the leaderboard in birdies, despite narrowly missing the overall victory. 

The Owls carried that momentum into Georgia at the Port City Classic, capturing the first tournament victory in program history. Facing 16 teams, Kenyon posted a two-round total of 631 to narrowly claim the win. Plasa and Belova again led the charge with top-five finishes, while Nelson contributed a top-10 result. 

The historic victory sets the stage for the team to chase more records at its next tournament, the Steven Tyler Memorial in Portage, Michigan, in April. 

Men: At the Savannah Invitational, the Owls finished 13th in a 20-team field packed with nationally ranked competition. Kenyon completed a 54-hole total of 892, narrowly missing a top-10 placement. Connor Gray ’28 led the way with a 6-over-par 222 to tie for 39th after three consistent rounds. Gray’s performance earned him NCAC Athlete of the Week honors. Rafael Frias IV ’27 followed with a 224 to share 50th place, while Adrian Jordan ’27, Oliver McGovern ’27 and Jonathan Oakes ’27 each carded 227 to tie for 63rd. The team rounds were 296, 301 and 295.

The following week at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Hampden-Sydney College (Va.) at Forest Creek Golf Club, the Owls improved to fifth place out of 20 teams. Jordan and Gray shared the team’s highest placement, both finishing tied for 12th at even par across three rounds. Oakes tied for 30th, highlighted by a strong closing round, while Jaiden Koonar ’27 tied for 49th. Frias IV rounded out the lineup at 57th. 

Kenyon will return to the course Thursday for the three-day, three-round Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Course on Jekyll Island, Georgia.
