Over the weekend, the Kenyon College men’s tennis team traveled to Kalamazoo College (Mich.) for the ITA Central Region Championships, showcasing impressive performances across the board. The event, which drew players from a wide range of schools in the Midwest, including Denison University and Case Western Reserve University, gave Kenyon an opportunity to measure itself against some of the best talent in Division III before the spring season. 

Of the Owls’ six singles players, three advanced to the latter stages of the tournament bracket. Paulo Pocasangre Kreling ’26, Alejandro Gonzalez ’27 and Maximo Llamas Castellanos ’29 all made it to the quarterfinals, with Gonzalez advancing to the semifinals before his campaign came to an end with a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Denison. 

In doubles competition, the Kenyon pairs had mixed results. The three duos of Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez, Juozas Cioladis ’28 and Llamas Castellanos and Jay Dixit ’28 and Stylianos Papamichael ’29 received first round byes, which they all followed up with second round wins. Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez, along with Dixit and Papamichael, fell in their next round, while Cioladis and Llamas Castellanos advanced to the quarterfinals before finally falling to a University of Chicago pair.

The conclusion of the ITA Central Region Championships officially brings Kenyon’s fall schedule to a close. With a blend of experienced upperclassmen and emerging underclassmen, the Owls now turn their attention to the spring season, where they will look to build on their strong foundation and continue competing at the highest level in Division III tennis.
