This past weekend, the Kenyon College football team traveled to Oberlin College for a fall break conference contest. The Owls fought valiantly against the Yeomen and came out with a dominant 57-2 win on the road. With the victory, Kenyon improved its record to 1-4 (1-2 NCAC).
The first quarter began with Kenyon on the defensive end after deferring the coin toss. Both teams got off to shaky starts on offense, with the first points of the game coming for Kenyon after the Yeomen fumbled out of the back of the end zone for a safety and gave the Owls a 2-0 advantage. Kenyon harnessed that momentum and immediately turned on the gas during their next offensive drive. Quarterback Ryan Dean ’29 threw a 37-yard pass to Brendan Comerford ’27, who scored the Owls’ first touchdown of the game. Dean then followed it up with another touchdown pass back to Comerford, and a good extra point for Sebastian Jones ’26 put the Owls up 15-0 with 5:25 left in the first. Oberlin would only score on a safety late in the first before Kenyon got their third touchdown of the game from Dean running the ball in himself, sending the Owls to the locker room up 22-2.
The second quarter began with more of the same as Jordon Benjamin ’26 got on the scoreboard, scoring a rushing touchdown to increase the Owls’ score to 29-2 early in the period. Kenyon continued its fierce dominance as Julius Thompson ’26 capitalized on the team’s fourth forced turnover to tally another touchdown and end the half with a 36-2 lead.
The Owls continued their strong showing as Benjamin found the end zone again, rushing 47 yards for a touchdown to start the second half. The Yeomen tried to battle back but were thwarted by the Kenyon defense, who kept Oberlin off the board. With the game well out of reach for Oberlin to make a comeback, a late Kenyon quarterback switch kept the Owls in control as Drew Morgan ’29 threw two touchdowns, one to Charlie Taylor ’27 and the other to Aydan Key ’29, which gave the Owls the final score at 57-2. Additionally, linebacker Michael Kerr ’27 earned NCAC Athlete of the Week honors for his performance, recording 6 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in the contest.
The Owls will return home to McBride Field on Saturday to take on Wabash College in another NCAC matchup.
