Football crushed by Little Giants at home, four games left

On Saturday afternoon, the Kenyon football team faced off against the Wabash College Little Giants at McBride Field. While they ultimately fell 46-12, the Owls showed moments of promise on both sides of the ball, highlighted by a strong defensive performance and two well-executed scoring drives.

After Wabash opened with an early touchdown, the Owls responded immediately with their best drive of the day. Quarterback Drew Morgan ’29 finished off a 75-yard drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyler Gladden ’28, bringing Kenyon within one point of the Little Giants. The offense continued to push the tempo, but field position and a few costly penalties stalled later drives as Wabash built a lead through the first period.

Kenyon’s defense tightened up in the second quarter, forcing several key stops in the red zone. Dominic Simpson ’27 and Jackson Belyn ’27 anchored the effort, combining for 14 tackles, while the defensive line recorded six sacks — the Owls’ highest total this season. The front seven’s pressure consistently disrupted Wabash’s rhythm, limiting the Little Giants’ success on longer possessions.

The Kenyon offense found the end zone again in the third quarter, when quarterback Ryan Dean ’29 connected with running back Damian Snell ’29 from 1 yard out, capping off another well-constructed drive. Running back Jordon Benjamin ’26 was a steady presence in the backfield, rushing for 74 yards and helping Kenyon sustain possession throughout the game. However, the Little Giants were just too strong, and the Owls fell 46-12.

Though the Owls couldn’t close the gap, their defensive effort and offensive flashes reflected the team’s growth and resilience. Kenyon will look to turn things around in this weekend’s matchup against Ohio Wesleyan University, as it heads into the final stretch of the season.
