On Saturday, the Kenyon College football team traveled to Greencastle, Indiana, to take on No. 14 DePauw University. Despite the difficult matchup against the 2024 NCAC champion, the Owls fought with dignity, losing 35-14, an honorable scoreline compared to last season’s 65-0 defeat. The loss brings the Owls’ record to 0-3 on the season.

Kenyon began the game on the right foot, working the ball down the field against DePauw’s staunch defense for a touchdown. Quarterback Ryan Dean ’29 passed to Dylan Carlquist ’26 on third down at the Tigers’ 5-yard line, who successfully ran it in for the score. Sebastian Jones ’26 kicked the extra point to put the Owls up 7-0, a strong opening drive. Unfortunately, the Tigers responded on their very next possession to even the playing field again. DePauw then secured another touchdown at the end of the second quarter to take the 14-7 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Owls struggled to stop the Tigers’ offense, as DePauw scored another touchdown to grow the lead to 21-7. However, Kenyon refused to give up. Dean sent a pass to Brendan Comerford ’27 at DePauw’s 7-yard line, who ran it in for a touchdown. Jones successfully snagged another extra point to make the score now 21-14. Despite their early achievements, the Owls were unable to continue their offensive strikes, while the Tigers took advantage of their opportunities and scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, beating Kenyon 35-14. Dean finished the day with 186 passing yards and 21 out of 39 completions. Comerford led the team with 9 receptions and a total of 65 receiving yards.

The Owls will look to get back on track this Saturday, as they take on new NCAC opponent John Carroll University at McBride Field for Kenyon’s Homecoming weekend.
