Over the weekend, the Kenyon men’s and women’s tennis teams returned to action. The women’s team swept The College of Wooster, but lost to No. 8 Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), while the men’s team beat both Wooster and Oberlin College but fell to No. 22 Sewanee (Tenn.).

Women: The No. 25 Kenyon women’s tennis team played its last two matches of the regular season over the weekend. On Friday, the team traveled to Wooster, sweeping the Fighting Scots to earn the title of NCAC regular season champions. Then, on Saturday, Kenyon lost to No. 8 Carnegie Mellon University 4-2.

The Owls played their final NCAC match of the season at Wooster, where the team secured a dominant victory. In doubles play, all three Kenyon teams easily won 6-0. The Owls’ dominance continued in singles play, where all six players beat their Fighting Scots’ opponents handily in two sets. Sophia Carling ’28 and Lalasa Nagireddy ’25 even swept their respective opponents 6-0, 6-0. With a 6-0 NCAC record, this is the third season in a row that Kenyon has claimed the title of NCAC regular season champions, and it is the 22nd overall regular season championship for the program.

Following the high from Friday, the Owls traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday for a rematch of their March 5 faceoff against the Tartans. Much like the last time the two teams played, Kenyon fell 4-2, but the loss was not totally in vain. The top duo of Leni Lazaridou ’26 and Hana Nouaime ’28 won their doubles match 6-1. In singles play, Lazaridou scored one of two points for the Owls with a 6-4, 6-4 sweep in the top match, while Ana Brand ’27 won her singles bout in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Both Nagireddy and Clare Hudson ’28 forced third sets, but ultimately fell, giving the Tartans the victory.

Aftering earning the top ranking in the NCAC, the Owls will host the NCAC Tournament next weekend in Gambier. Kenyon closes out its regular season with a 13-6 (6-0 NCAC) record.

Men: Last week, the No. 11 Kenyon men’s tennis team headed to Wooster to take on the Fighting Scots, whom it swept 7-0. Then, on Sunday, the Owls traveled to Centre College (Ky.) to play a neutral-site matchup against the No. 22 Sewanee Tigers, where they were unfortunately sent home with a 4-3 loss. Kenyon wrapped up its regular season campaign with a home win against Oberlin, leaving its record at 17-4.

The Owls began their stretch of matches on Friday against the Fighting Scots with the doubles matches, where the pairs of Alejandro Gonzalez ’27 and Gianluca Bocanegra ’27, as well as Jay Dixit ’27 and Josh Finkle ’27 each won 6-4. Then, the duo of Eric Zhang ’25 and Rishil Kondapaneni ’25 won its match handily 6-0 to secure the doubles point.

In singles play, the Owls didn’t drop a single match. Gonzalez earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-1 victory in the first match. Then, Juozas Cioladis ’28 cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Both Rakkan Audeh ’25 and Rohan Sriram ’28 swept their Fighting Scot foes 6-0, 6-0. Dixit and Bocanegra picked up their second wins of the day as well, with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively, to secure a 7-0 team win.

The Owls’ second match of the week got off to a slow start, as Paulo Pocasangre Kreling ’26 and Gonzalez dropped the first doubles match 7-6 (7-4). Finkle and Dixit took the second doubles match for the Owls 6-2, putting all eyes on Kondapaneni and Bocanegra. Unfortunately, the duo could not secure the doubles point for Kenyon and dropped the match 7-6 (7-2).

Kenyon went into the singles matches with its sights set on a comeback. Pocasangre Kreling started off strong for the Owls, but ultimately fell to his opponent in a three-set thriller (6-4, 1-6, 3-6). Then, Kondapaneni earned Kenyon’s first point of the day, winning 6-2, 6-4. Gonzalez and Cioladis continued that momentum, winning 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively. Unfortunately Zhang dropped his match 3-6, 4-6, leaving Audeh with the responsibility to win the match. He dropped the first set 7-5, but made a strong comeback in the second to force a third set with a score of 6-1. With the match on the line, Audeh ultimately fell to his Sewanee opponent 6-1, sending the Owls back to Gambier with a 4-3 loss.

Looking to close out the season with a win against Oberlin, Kenyon earned the doubles point, as the duos of Pocasangre Kreling and Gonzalez and Finkle and Zhang swiftly defeated their Yeomen opponents, 6-1 and 6-2, respectively. In singles play, the dominance continued in all of the Owls’ matches. Cioladis led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, before Pocasangre Kreling (6-0, 6-2) and Audeh (6-0, 6-1) added their own convincing victories. To close out Kenyon’s defeat of Oberlin, Kondapaneni completed his 6-2, 6-1 win and Gonzalez put the nail in the coffin with his 6-1, 6-0 victory. The Owls walked away with their final NCAC win of the season, defeating the Yeomen 6-0.

Kenyon will begin postseason play on May 2 as the Owls head into the NCAC quarterfinals to begin their playoff campaign.
