Welcome to Volume 153 of the Collegian!
As the semester winds down and students turn their attention to final exams and warmer weather, our work here at the Collegian is just beginning. We are so excited to shepherd Gambier’s only newspaper (since 1856) into the 2025-26 school year. But before we look to the future, we must first acknowledge the people who helped us get to this point in our Collegian careers.
Since 2023, Editors-in-Chief Katie Sparvero ’25 and Audrey Baker ’25 and Managing Editor Annalia Fiore ’25 have expertly led our publication, becoming our mentors and close friends in the process. Rising from the sports, news and arts sections, respectively, the executive trio has helmed the Collegian for not one but two whole years, a monumental — and rare — achievement. News Editor Liz DeProspo ’25 has steadfastly overseen the news section throughout that time, keeping our readers (you!) apprised of everything you didn’t know you needed to know. And Kyle Kelley ’25, our intrepid crossword editor, has always been quick to provide a smile and a near-impossible clue as he crafted the Collegian’s beloved puzzle each week. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the entire staff of Volume 152, and are honored to carry on their legacy of editorial excellence.
You’ve probably seen our names in the bylines of articles: Sacha in Features, Dorothy in Arts and Opinions, Micah in Sports and News. You may also have received all-student emails from us imploring you to attend our weekly section meetings. You may have even been interviewed by us about topics ranging from how it felt to score that game-winning goal to the correct stylization of your student band’s name. Now, it’s time to reintroduce ourselves as the Collegian’s executive team for the 2025-26 academic year. We all joined the Collegian as first years and now, as rising seniors, we can’t wait to welcome the next generation of Kenyon’s writers, editors and aspiring journalists.
At a time when institutions of higher education are under attack and the power of the free press is being eroded, we take our job at the intersection of these worlds very seriously. While we are not so naive as to promise perfection, what we can promise is that we will do everything in our power to bring you accurate, important and interesting coverage of the issues and events that impact our community, both on and off the Hill.
The Collegian is ever-changing, and in the upcoming year we will continue to write, edit, experiment, adapt and maybe even make some mistakes. But through it all, we hope you know that we’re doing it for you, Kenyon. Your faithful readership means the world to us, and your eagle-eyed critiques keep us on our toes. We hope you will enjoy Volume 153 of The Kenyon Collegian!
