Staff Editorial: Food for thought

Late-night food options in Gambier are simply lacking. Even with Kenyon Carryout and the newly revived Nite Bites, it can’t be said we have  enough. These intrepid student businesses could use more institutional support from the College.

Student turnover can threaten the continuity of student-run businesses like Kenyon Carryout and Nite Bites. Last May, Nite Bites’s owners  attempted to sell their business to Kenyon before they graduated; they prepared an extensive business plan that would have kept students involved, and which predicted a profit. But after months of conversation with administrators, the deal fell through.

If Kenyon wishes to have a student life that is self-sustaining, it would do well to invest in pre-existing student services in addition to starting new ones from scratch. The only place that will benefit if a financial commitment is not made to these late-night food endeavors is Papa John’s.
