On Sunday, Student Council met to congratulate the newly elected Council and Senate members for the 2025-26 academic year, make plans to subsidize airport shuttles for the upcoming year and announce new outdoor furniture on the Peirce Dining Hall Patio.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Andrew Pilat ’25 opened the meeting by encouraging the upcoming Student Council and Senate members: “This is an incredible opportunity to make a difference in your campus community,” he said. “I hope you all make the most of it.” Additionally, Pilat stated that he had met with Sam Connors ’26, the newly elected vice president for academic affairs, and believes Connors will excel in the position. Closing out his address, Pilat announced that the final Academic Affairs Committee meeting of the year will take place on Sunday.
Vice President for Student Life Drew Sutherland ’25 continued the meeting by announcing the winners of the 2025-26 Student Council Special Election. Yasha Zehra ’26 will serve as the vice president of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, while Ciaran Strimaitis ’27 and Griffin Meyer ’26 will serve as the junior and senior class senate representatives. Finally, Sutherland reminded the Council that student organization renewal is due May 9 at 11:59 p.m.
Next, Campus Senate co-Chair Cooper Bertschi ’26 stated that the Campus Senate held its final meeting of the year on April 17. At the meeting, Bertschi recognized the Student Council’s projects throughout the 2024-25 academic year, such as the Caught You in the Act of Kindness and the Bicentennial Tree Planting. He also discussed the work of the Student Council in making the 2023 Social Space Survey and 2025 Student Leader Social Space Survey. To conclude his address, Bertschi thanked the Campus Senate: “I want to once again express my gratitude to the co-chairs, the student senators and all the committed members of Campus Senate that I’ve had the pleasure to work with this year and across the three years I’ve served in the group,” he said.
Student Council President Marissa Sun ’25 then announced plans for Student Council to continue to help subsidize airport shuttles, which traditionally run before and after school breaks, throughout the upcoming academic year. More information on that initiative will become available to students in the fall. Additionally, Sun reported that new outdoor furniture, including outdoor tables and umbrellas, was set up on the Peirce Patio — “Just in time for the warm weather,” she said. In the coming weeks, Adirondack chairs will be installed on the patio for students to enjoy as well.
The last Student Council meeting of the 2024-25 academic year will take place on Sunday in Chalmers Library 302 at 7 p.m. All students are welcome to attend either in person or remotely. The newly elected Student Council will run the final meeting.
